The Accuplacer is a placement test for students who wish to study at certain technical schools, colleges, and universities throughout the United States.
The Accuplacer exam contains general assessments in arithmetic, elementary algebra, college-level mathematics, sentence skills, and reading comprehension.
The Accuplacer is designed to measure the necessary math and English skills needed for college or university study and whether a student would benefit from further practice in developmental courses.
The Accuplacer is a computer-adaptive placement test (CAT). This means that the test is administered on a computer and that the questions on each part of the test get harder or easier depending on your answer to the previous questions. If you get a question right, your score goes up and you are given a slightly more difficult question. If you get a question wrong, your score goes down and you are given an easier question. Because the Accuplacer placement tests are given on a computer, you will get your score immediately after the exam.
You will also get information about which courses you need to take when you have finished testing. Some colleges and universities will advise you of your necessary courses immediately after completing the Accuplacer assessment test for college placement. If not, ensure you take the time to speak with an admissions counselor about your college track.
